SML Architektur ETH SIA is a Swiss-Chinese architecture and interior design studio based in Zurich and Winterthur, represents a new generation of architects with a multicultural background spanning from East to West. SML Architektur relies on a blend of Far Eastern mentality and concepts and the Swiss appreciation for precision in execution.

Mulan Sun 孙慕蘭
Mulan Sun is the founder of SML Architektur and the president of SCAA (Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Architects and Artists) She works currently also as a visitng professor at the school of architecture in Tianjin University and teaches master design studio on the topic “Upcycling the existing urban fabric”.
Prior to her independent career in architecture, Mulan holds a Master of Science in Architecture at the ETH Zurich and worked as project leader for a variety of projects in Switzerland. In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Doreen Heng Liu from Chinese University of Hong Kong, she has taught architectural and interdisciplinary design studios on the topic “Spatial transformation in the age of obsolescence” in department of architecture at the ETH Zurich and managed several seminar trips to China. Her research and teaching work has been published in <The Architect> (No.193), <ETH Year Book> (2016), <ETH Studio Basel> (MetroBasel 2006 and Nile Vally 2009), <Ruizhong> (1/2018) etc. By combining academia, practice, and intercultural exchange, She is able to transfer the knowledge from theory to innovative solutions to each project from concept through to completion and develop the art of leadership in team working.
Mulan was born and grown up in China and came to Switzerland in 2005. And she has lived in Tianjin, Beijing, Nanjing, Fribourg, Basel and Zurich. This multicultural background influence her work, as does her love of modern architecture, contemporary art and tea culture. Besides her career, she is learning and practicing tea ceremony (Chado) since 2015 with Urasenke Prof. Soyu Mukai in Museum Rietberg.
